Lehsunia

Cat's Eye, the gemstone of Ketu

Lehsunia is the gemstone of Ketu, the south lunar node. The stone is chrysoberyl, and its defining feature is a single sharp band of light that glides across the dome as the stone is turned. A fine example shows a knife thin, centred band with a clear honey and milk effect on either side of it.

In Vedic tradition Lehsunia is worn for Ketu, and is associated with intuition, detachment and protection from sudden reversals.

What to check before you pay

Quartz cat's eye and fibreglass imitations are widespread and much cheaper than chrysoberyl. A report identifying the species as chrysoberyl is essential. Judge the eye itself under a single light source: it should be straight, sharp and centred, and it should open and close cleanly as the stone rotates.
